STUMPWORK PORTRAITS

Posted on behalf of The Workhouse Dunstable

Stumpwork, or padded embroidery, is a traditional technique that adds another dimension to your needlework/embroidery projects. We will be creating 'mini portraits' by padding and sculpting fabric, then embroidering and embellishing. Please bring your own sewing kit of pins, needles, scissors & embroidery hoop. You can also bring any fabrics, yarns, beads embellishments etc., if you like, but we have equipment and materials that you are welcome to use if you prefer.

CREATE A PAIR OF LINKED BANGLES

Posted on behalf of The Workhouse Dunstable

PRICE: £50 inc materials

In this workshop you will create a pair of sterling silver bangles that are joined together with a small ring.

You can choose between round or d-shaped silver wire and decide if you want to texture the bangles or keep them lovely and smooth.

Local jewellery maker, Jude Karnon, will guide you through making the bangles using traditional jewellery making techniques which include cutting, filing, soldering and shaping. The highlight will be using the texturing hammers to create the many different effects; a very satisfying and therapeutic part of the session.

The bangle you create will definitely be a statement piece which will receive many positive comments.

Saint Saviour's Concert Series: Nikolsky Male Ensemble

Posted on behalf of St Saviour's Church, Luton, Bedfordshire

The ‘Saint Saviour’s Concert Series’ starts its 2019 season of classical events this year with an invitation to experience Russian Choral Music with world renowned Nikolsky Male Ensemble.

The Nikolsky Male Ensemble was formed in 2015, as a part of the Choir of the St Nikolas Monastery, in Saratov. The Russian city of Saratov also has a State Conservatoire which after Moscow and St Petersburg is the third largest in Russia. Members of the Ensemble are chosen from amongst the finest soloists performing in Saratov Opera, Theatre of Choral Music and cathedrals.

Each singer has a passionate commitment to Russian music, but they also have an extensive repertoire that includes music written by the great classical composers of Europe.

Although sung in Russian, language is not a barrier to enjoying the beautiful and moving melodies. The concert will include motets and liturgical settings from the Eastern Church together with Russian folk songs that characterise the great ‘Russian Soul’.
